When God created My Toes by Dandi Daley Mackall is a delightfully cute picture book. The catchy rhymes and silly words make it a fun book to read aloud as you cuddle with your preschooler.

“When God created my toes
Did he make them wiggle?
Did he know I’d giggle?
Did he have to hold his nose when God created my toes?”
October 2011 789The story creates a beautiful picture of childhood while at the same time weaving through it how God created us. The girl in the story is like any child: she creates unintentional mischief, skins her knee, horses around with her Daddy, is creative, makes a mess, takes a bath, is playful, and loving. The playful responses to each part God created create an endearing quality to the book.
But I think the best part of this book is the beautiful and creative illustrations by David Hohn.  I love the little sketches on the opposite page of the full color illustrations. The sketches draws you through the book until you end with a colored sketch of the girl, as if she’d drawn a picture of herself.  Just beautiful!October 2011 787
My Kindergarten aged son was pleased with himself that he would read some words from the story. He spent a long time enjoying the beautiful pictures. My daughter did exactly what I would expect her to do with a good picture book – snuggle up with Mommy, giggle at the story, and create a precious memory of our time enjoying her childhood together.

This book is a real steal at Amazon right now – only $4.00! (not sure why, but it is half off right now) Plus it ships free with a minimum order or Prime membership! This would make a GREAT Christmas present for any preschool aged child.
