image_thumb15I don’t know about you, but I find myself more and more frustrated with all the chemicals in our world today! Every time I turn on the news there seems to be a new study linking a commonly used chemical with heart breaking cancer or a myriad of other side effects.

But what really frustrates me is when I think about these products in relation to my children! I want my kids to grow up safe, have healthy bodies without lingering side effects as they go into adulthood, and have a place to live that isn’t laced with chemicals because the previous generation wasn’t thinking about their future!

Did you know there are 20 billion* diapers dumped in landfills each year and that it takes 500 years for them to decompose. What’s more these diapers contain toxic chemicals** that have been linked to adverse health effects in humans with long-term exposure. (We are talking about cancer, TSS, infertility in boys, nerve damage, and the list goes on!)

Ever since I did the research and realized all the toxic products our home was filled with, I’ve been buying more carefully. It certainly takes way more time to sort through all the ingredients to find products that are safe for my family! We are now using green cleaning products, a steam mop for our floors, ditched any items with “fragrance” additives, switched out our shampoos, and moved to cloth diapers! Honestly, the hardest switch was cloth diapers. Cloth diapers have such cute styles and are so much more user friendly than they were in the past. But let’s be honest, it takes more time to do laundry, nursery workers and baby sitters don’t know what to do with them, no one likes carrying around a wet diaper in their diaper bag to take home, what do you do on vacation, and with my 3rd kiddo – she keeps getting rashes. (You can’t use diaper rash cream with cloth diapers!)

So I was super thrilled when I was introduced to The Honest Company.

The Honest Company’s whole mission is about providing safe, affordable products for your family. What’s more they do it in a very conscientious way by seeing how their product and even packaging will holdup from start to decomposing! And they sell everything from bug spray to household cleaners to baby care products.

Now I know what you are thinking – lots of companies claim to be all natural. Don’t just take their word for it - check out what the Environmental Working Group (a fantastic database for products) has to say about The Honest Company’s sunscreen. They give it a risk factor of 1 – I’d never seen any with such a wonderfully low number! One means low hazard and it goes all the way up to a ten, high hazard. For comparison, check out Banana Boat Baby sunscreen that scored a 7 or Neutrogena Wet Skin Kids also at a 7.

I love that I can confidently go one place for all our household needs!!

What about diapers? Well… they are super cute to start with! They are easy to use with reclosable strips. Plus, most importantly - their diapers do NOT contain chlorine, perfume, phthalates, lotions, optical brighteners, PVC, heavy metals, and organotins (MBT, DBT, TBT)! And how do they work? I can honestly say (no pun intended) they work just as good as all the leading brand diapers we’ve used! And guess what – they only cost about 5 cents more a diaper than Pampers (I compared bundles in both in a size 3 purchasing Pampers on sale at Amazon!)

Plus did you know that for every purchase you make, The Honest Company donates time, money, and product to give supplies to families in need . I love supporting businesses that give back!

I can tell you with all sincerity I was super impressed with The Honest Company!

“The Honest Company was started by a mom and a dad who, like many modern parents, were increasingly worried about products made with questionable chemical ingredients. But the alternatives they found were often expensive, inaccessible, bland, or ineffective. In response to this clear need for something better, they created The Honest Company to ensure that parents (or anyone for that matter!) could easily find natural and non-toxic eco-friendly products that are beautiful, effective, and affordable. From customized product bundles to diapers and wipes to an ever-expanding line of cleaning and personal care products, you can find everything you need at Honest.com and have it delivered directly to your front door.
