Animated stories are a relatively new & fun way to experience books. They take the illustrations that were done with the book & animate them ever so slightly. They add some subtle or catchy music and a narrator reads the story.
We think these are a fun change of pace, although they will never take the place of actually reading the book in our house.
Scholastic's BookFlix & Tumble Books are the two that I am aware of. Many libraries have the videos available for patrons to view online FREE, from the convenience of your own home! You can also check these out at your local library. You can always purchase your favorites to view time and time again through the Amazon link provided.
So which ones should you start with? If you are looking for a couple recommendations - here are some of our absolute favorites we've watched MANY times!
- Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin (So fun - with very catchy music!!)
- I Stink DVD! (VERY fun music; story about garbage collector)
- Pete's A Pizza (cute story about parents 'making' their son Pete into a pizza)
- Happy Birthday Moon (sweet story - Bear gets the Moon a hat for his birthday)
- Good Night Gorilla (Zoo keeper locks up the zoo animals, but a gorilla goes behind him & lets them all out)
- Antarctic Antics (hilarious, catchy, toe tapping, and educational songs about Emperor penguins)
